A Guide to Making Seaweed Fertiliser

Instead of spending money to buy commercial fertiliser, you can make your own compost out of natural materials. Written below are some instructions on how you can make soil stimulant from seaweed. The latter is a good source of potassium, one of the nutrients that are essential for plant growth.

Begin by collecting seaweed from your local beach. A large bucket containing about two to three pounds will be enough to last a small garden all summer. Once you get home, prepare the main ingredient by rinsing it. This process will remove the excess salt that may have clung to the water plant.

Next, fill glass jugs with 2-to-1 ratio of fresh water to seaweed. You may also use old wine bottles or mason jars as alternative containers. Secure one with a lid to cut down the smell and evaporation.

You need to leave the jugs outside for about two to three months until all the seaweed has disintegrated and the water looks brackish and brown. To apply the finished product, mix it with fresh water in 1-to-1 ratio. Use it every one to two weeks when watering your plants.
