Sanitising Planting Pots

Growing plants in containers can be extremely convenient, especially if one does not have enough space for a garden. However, in order for your vegetable or ornamental to grow properly, it is essential to use pots that are clean and sanitary. This is because mineral salts, fungus, diseases, and pests could all be harboured in previously used planters. Below are some steps on how to tidy up this gardening implement properly.

Start by filling a large bucket with nine parts of water and one part bleach. Get another and fill it with warm, soapy solution and the last one with clear water. Next, drop the pot into the second bucket and use a steel wool to scrub away any caked-on or hardened soil.

After scrubbing, quickly rinse the containers in the bucket with clean water. Leave the implements to soak in the bleach for 15 minutes. Once the prescribed time has elapsed, remove the planters and wash them again in fresh water. Finally, leave them outside in the sun to dry completely.
